The 5 things you need to know before renting your first apartment
Being a landlord I see the same basic things happening to my tenants over and over. It doesn’t seem to matter what age they are or education, there are the basics that they just don’t know. To myself and to people who may have rented previously or own your home these maybe silly but it blows my mind how many tenants have no idea these are things you should know.
- Change your filters- replace that furnace filter once a month or two if its not dirty, this will save you money if you pay your own utilities. The lint in the dryer, clean it out, you clothes will dry faster. Your water filter, just trust me and keep it clean.
- Your garbage disposal is not for garbage!! So important! This is my most paid bill by tenants who didn’t put anything down there as the plumber is pulling out noodles and dirt. Throw your trash in the trash, scrape your plates in the trash, rinse your dish in the sink.
- Don’t plan on mounting a TV to the wall unless you want to pay a drywaller to repair it. When you bolt multiple holes into the wall those are there forever. And the more holes and the bigger they are the more expensive it is to fix them.
- Line your drawers. Not just because it looks cute because do you really want to put your toothbrush next to some past tenants germs. If the place is new you can keep it that way or if its used, trust me you will want to cover up that mess.
- Don’t burn cheap candles, or any really. The smoke residue goes onto the walls and into your duct work and your breathing all of that in. You have to repaint the walls because the residue stains the walls and with so many alternatives why even use them.
These are the easiest things to do but for some reason people neglect them causing themselves a ton of money. For my tenants the lease tells them all of these things and if it causes a service call for one of these reasons it’s their bill.

Altitude Trampoline Park in Davenport
This post was sponsored by Altitude trampoline park but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.
I feel like we have been trapped inside for way too many days, so do my kids. We have been making the most out of being inside time with the usual pretend play, games and movies but the need to exercise their little bodies is something that is so very important. My kids love to run and jump and interact with other kids so being able to go to the new trampoline park in Davenport, Altitude, was the best way to keep them active and safe from the cold.
We were fortunate enough to be able to go to the new Altitude Davenport Trampoline Park. The Altitude Davenport location is the fresh, new entertainment destination in the Davenport area. Not too far away from us and filled with attractions not seen around here. Founded in 2012, Altitude is the fastest growing trampoline park company in the world. With over 35,000 square feet of indoor trampolines and attractions including a Main Court, Dodgeball, Battlebeam, Foam Pit, Trapeze Bar, Kids Court, Performance Trampoline, High 9 Reaction Wall, Wipeout there’s something to keep everyone entertained.
My kids were instantly drawn to the big foam pits where you could bounce off the trampoline and into the pit. After that they were off to the balance beam and rock wall. After multiple attempts to make it up the wall off they went to Wipeout which I think was Pipers favorite activity. The beam goes around and switches course so its always a surprise which way its coming. There were so many things to do. Will loved the dodgeball court where he took me on as a partner.
They got to get in a great workout, including myself. Jumping around the park isn’t only fun- it’s also a great workout. After just 30 minutes of jumping you can burn over 100 calories. So its a great workout for all of us since we have been inside for so long. Altitude Davenport Trampoline Park was wonderful to stretch out legs and be able to run around and jump. This was fun for all of us, its exercise for the entire family! I loved having fun with the kids and they enjoyed playing with me and their friends.
My son is having a birthday soon and he was already asking if we could book Altitude Davenport Trampoline Park for his party. Altitude has a perfect venue for birthday parties or any group event. They confirmed that the park can accommodate a group of any size, large or small. The best part is that Altitude will take care of all of it, from the organization to set up and to clean up. Their staff is so friendly and I can’t wait to book Will’s party.
Thinking about hosting your own birthday party at Altitude, click on the link to see their birthday page: Altitude Birthday parties
What I enjoyed most were my kids and their friends memories made. I got to see them plan with friends and make new ones. They had so much fun and so did I.

The looks of the week on Instagram 2.8.19
I have been on the struggle bus all week. Just not full of energy like I usually am and lacking on pretty much every subject. I have so much to get done but not the energy to do it. Even my planner is lonely lol. I need to get it together because we have a crazy fun filled weekend coming up tomorrow and so much needs to be done.
After losing my Instagram last weekend it has taken me a bit to get refocused on my plans but I am going to get there. I just got tickets to Rachel Hollis seminar when she is coming to Cedar Rapids in April so that kind of woke me back up for a bit. Last night on the way to Kyle’s I was listening to Joel Osteen talk about how much you want something, how big is your desire. Well mine is huge so I need to get back at it. How do you recover from a temporary shortfall?
Love this look, top and chambray top is both true to size, black high waisted jeans go up one size.
Hard to see but light pink stripes running thru this top, go up one size, jeans fit true to size.
This pink heart top is so cute, paired with this skirt, both fit true to size or go down one size in the top if in between sizes.
Super soft shirt on crazy sale lately, fits true to size. Paired with built in warm jeans that I love.
Classic pink sweater, v neck fitting true to size paired with high waisted comfy jeans, also tts.
